Common Questions & Reassurance When you’re tasked with arranging a funeral, it’s completely natural to have a head full of questions. Most of the families we meet have the same worries, so we’ve gathered a few common ones here to help put your mind at ease. If your question isn’t here, please don’t hesitate to just ask us. How soon can the funeral take place? Usually, a funeral happens within two to three weeks. However, this depends on things like the Medical Examiner’s review and when the crematorium or cemetery has space. We’ll coordinate all of this for you and keep you updated so you aren’t left wondering. You can be assured that we will always try to work to your time constraints and agree appropriate dates with you. Can we come and see our loved one? Yes, of course. We have a peaceful Chapel of Rest at our Heathfield home. You’re welcome to visit to say your private goodbyes; we just ask for a little bit of notice so we can make sure everything is ready and tranquil for you. Do we have to wear black? Not at all. While many still find comfort in traditional black, more families are now choosing “bright colours” or a specific theme to celebrate a personality. It’s entirely your choice, and we will follow whatever dress code you’d like to set. Can we carry the coffin ourselves? Yes, and many families find this a very moving way to say goodbye. However we need to put Health & Safety first. If you’d like to act as pallbearers, we will be right beside you to provide gentle guidance and support to make sure everything goes smoothly and safely. What happens with the ashes afterwards? We will normally collect your loved ones ashes from the crematorium about 3 working days after the cremation. But, there is no rush to decide what you want to do with them. We can look after the ashes safely for you while you take the time you need to think about a final resting place, whether that’s scattering them somewhere special, keeping them in an urn, or interment in a family plot. Are there hidden costs? Never. Our “Fair Price” promise means everything is transparent. We provide a clear, written estimate upfront so you know exactly what the costs are before we move forward.
